Can Ben Gorham, Byredo Parfums founder, put a foot – or rather a nose – wrong? His latest scent Heliotropia has been created as an embodiment of Liberty London and shall be exclusively available from the Great Malborough Street Store from Monday. It’s a sweet and heady scent that sends us straight into the oaken scarf hall of this shopping stalwart.

Inspired by the rich heritage of Liberty’s iconic floral prints, this eau de parfum is a flowery affair, containing wild gardenia, jasmine sambac and (the namesake) heliotrope – a vibrant purple flower at the heart of the fragrance. Heliotropia’s base notes of agar wood and white birch represent the still-prominent timber frame of the building itself (constructed in the Tudor-revival style from two ships). While the shop’s reputation for quirk and eclectic taste comes through with the jasmine sambac. We love the way that Heliotropia evokes summer reverie as well as more exotic dreams of afar with its sweet mix of white flowers and woody incense.

It’s floral with a kick. Wear abundantly on hot summer days or spray it onto a favourite Liberty-print scarf for long summer evenings.

Heliotropia, £135 for 100ml, is available from 20 June exclusively at Liberty, online and in-store.
