Swiss artist Sophie Taeuber-Arps' geometric paintings inspired Karl Lagerfeld's Fendi AW15 prints. The artist, along with her husband Jean Arp, were part of the abstraction movement in the early 20th century. Her work (largely produced in black and white with primary colours) looked to strip away the pretentiousness of the art world at the time and as a result it looks like children's puzzles or geometric games. That sense of fun must have resonated with Lagerfeld who's been busy creating fluffy monsters for seasons now. Though the Fendi designer explained his pre-fall collection was inspired simply by stripes, Taeuber-Arp's aesthetic must have already been on his mind when he created these beautiful black and multi-coloured boots.
