On Friday, the rumour of Alexander Wang's departure from Balenciaga was confirmed. That's it folks – Wang is indeed parting company with the house and his SS16 show on October 2nd will be his last.

In a statement given by the designer, the split seems amicable; “It’s been an incredible experience to work with a couture house in Paris,” he said. “I am honored to have had the opportunity to work for this historical maison. I would like to thank the brilliant team at Balenciaga for their collaboration and for what we have accomplished together, and I am looking forward to taking my own brand to its next level of growth.”

Wang took up his position when he was just 29-years old, taking over from Nicolas Ghesquière who had worked as creative director for 15 years. The American designer's stint was considerably shorter, he produced five runway collections, but he made his mark on the brand with his downtown aesthetic. This morning, we're championing a spray painted purse – a chance to get a little piece of fashion history. Now the question remains...who will replace Alexander Wang?
